Very clear museum presentation

I went there by grave taxi alone and learned that the guided group tours only start 2 hours later. It is a living museum at every house there are, stands where traditional crafts, culinary arts and dances are performed. Especially the drinks and small food on the way were particularly interesting. You could walk through several longhouses. The steps of notched logs are not easy to take. You were accompanied by one person as a group, and everything was explained very well. There were also ways to do something yourself, such as operate a blowpipe and reach a shooting target or create sounds on the aisle. It was really experience and a lot of experience

Very good tour. Guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Taxi pick up was prompt and kept me up to date on WhatsApp.

It is not a private tourit is it fake and wrong

IT IS NOT A PRIVATE TOUR you will be with 12 other people and wait and wait for everyone to be ready . The tour company doesn t answer to you before during or after the tour. The village is cute ! Don t expect Viator to refund because they don t care so go to other companies..

Wonderful smooth tour by Clare 👍🏼

I went with both my parents, and it was a very enjoyable experience! I visited 5 years ago, and there have been improvements from the reception area, to the increased number of staff and guides, and lunch provided as compared to last time 👍🏼 We got Clare as our guide, and she was very patient and kind despite certain people in the group that were a tad more mischievious throughout the tour. The tour was smooth, the post-tour performance was entertaining, and the lunch was delicious. All in all, I'm glad that MMCV has improved over the years and gave my parents as wonderful an experience as last time I went 😁👍🏼👍🏼 Would recommend everyone to visit atleast once if they are in Sabah!

Fun way to learn more about Malaysian Culture

Good learning experience

I am not going to fault anything here, it was an amazing experience. The guides were amazing ( our guide was Aril) and we felt really good taken care of. They are all knowledgeable and really want people to learn about the culture and the tribes of Borneo. The traffic can be horrible, it can rain, changes can happen to your trip, but none of this matters as long as the experience is great, and it really was 🙂 Thank you so much 🙂

The best thing to do from Kota Kinabalu

We totally loved our afternoon here. Our guide was super friendly and explained everything very well. The tour is well thought through and we were not expecting to have food and drink little tasters throughout. We didnt really know what to expect and were impressed...

No value add

The tour itself was excellent. 5 stars to the experience, and our guide Zul was engaging. The transport there left much to be desired and was overpriced after i calculated how much the ticket price cost us. The driver was late in picking us up, saying he had to go to the carwash, and the main coordinator said no rush when we contacted him. There is no value add for this package - only overpriced private transfer and the driver going over to register for you at the venue. Book this only if its last minute and you cannot get your own transport..

Very informative about the history of the tribes, their housing and their food and drink. Lead by a very informative guide

Interesting and exciting

The guides were lively, staff were welcoming. There was food tasting. We got a good insight to how the native tribes lived. Dance performance was very good.

Excellent fun cultural experience

Excellent tour (and we have been to a number of similar ones in other countries). In house guide spoke fluent English. Group sizes reasonable (13 in ours). Visited 5 tribal reconstructed longhouses, all fully explained. Lots of food and drink to sample. Interactive throughout, fun, entertaining and informative. Short dance and music show. Excellent buffet food at the end. Difficult if mobility issues as some steps up and down into houses, but may be alternatives. Thoroughly recommended, including for children...

Mari Mari cultural village

Very slow people are divided into groups and there is not enough time between groups resulting in long queue and overcrowding , no published time for the show we had to wait for more than 45 mins to wait for the show to start , No places in between the walks to get water , No access to anyone who has a disability and also knee problems . It takes longer than it should due to lack of Organization. We were also told it included lunch and it was not part of it

Good value and great experience - very interactive.

Great experience. Overall a good snap shot into the tribes history and how they lived day to day. Very Interactive and the staff really enjoy the work they do there which shines through in the tour Thank you to BiBi and the team for making the day very memorable for our family.

Loved the Cultural Village but Not the Tour Operator

The cultural village was great, but I do not recommend booking through this tour operator. I am a solo traveler and Viator only lets you book if you pay for two people (found out later I could have booked private transport for much less than they’re charging), and to my surprise ended up being a private transfer. I wasn’t feeling well that day so I told the driver I was skipping lunch and asked if we could head back early. He said we had to stay for lunch, so I assumed we were transporting others back. However it ended up being me sitting there for an extra 45 minutes watching my driver have a casual lunch with his friend, smoke a cigarette, then buy a drink and chat some more just to be transported by myself back to my hotel. Seems odd to make me wait that long for my driver when I was basically forced to pay for a private transfer

A KK must-do.

Amazing value for money - we got an amazing interactive tour (thank you Polly), sampled the tribal cuisines, saw a cultural performance, and got a good feed before leaving. Would recommend to anyone going to KK.

Enjoyable morning

Village experience was interesting experience and the guide appeared very knowledgeable, dance performance and music was entertaining, food was reasonable but disappeared quickly. Unfortunately our driver appeared disinterested, his vehicle stunk of smoke, he was impatient, and certainly not appreciated.

Don't book through Viator or TripAdvisor

We were really looking forward to this. That is why we booked it several weeks in advance. We were to arrive on a cruise ship and wanted to make sure we could get there and back in the time we had ashore. Everything was set up and fully paid in advance. We even got an additional confirmation the day before our tour. We arrived 20 minutes early before our 9 am pick up. At 9:02 we get a message asking us if we can do the afternoon show instead. We cannot because of our ship's departure time. That is why we booked this weeks in advance. "We have too many people. Can you come another day?" No, we are here on a cruise ship for today only. That is why we booked in advance. If you don't have room, why did you take our money 3 weeks ago? Why did you send a confirmation yesterday? Conclusion: Don't book through Viator or TripAdvisor. Find some way to book direct or you will likely miss out.

Great tour guides and experiences. It was pouring rain when we visited, but still a great experience (they sell cheap ponchos if needed)..

Highs and lows, better ways to do it.

This tour had highs and lows. Starting with the lows: The transport to the village was disappointing. The driver showed up late and did not communicate anything in advance. The car was far from ideal for a family of for, the 3 in the back really had to squeeze to fit. And on the way back we made a stop at a gas station even though the driver had approx 3 hours to sort that while we were in the village. The high was the village tour itself that I would highly recommend. Very friendly guide and interesting tour. My recommendation would be to book a Grab to the village and buy the tickets there. The drive in this tour had very little value add...

Mari Mari cultural centre

Mari Mari cultural centre was excellent. Entertainment and meal suburb. Tour guide the best. Our Driver 1 out of 10. He was late then we detoured for him to get something to eat. We asked if we would be going home the same road if so could we be dropped at the beach. He said yes then drove home a different road. He then took us to the wrong accommodation and huffed when advised it was the wrong place. He was constantly getting text messages and we think he was arguing with his girlfriend. Very bad customer service.

It was very interesting to see and hear about life in Borneo many years, get information about headhunters.

Great Tribal Learning Experience

We were prepared to be picked up but the tour van got into an auto accident before it got to us. No one was hurt, however, that understandably delayed the tour until the next day. Mari-Mari Cultural Village is just outside Kota Kinabalu so the drive there seemed relatively short (compared to Kinabalu Park). Unlike other tours our driver was not the tour guide. The tour guide was an older gentleman knowledgeable about the five tribes of Sabah and brought us through the different tribal houses. There is a built-in native trampoline we jumped on. There were demonstrations of cooking and alcohol making with delicious samples for everyone, and also bark cloth making for clothes. This tour does not include blow pipe making or demonstration. The dancing and performance afterwards was by the same people who did the cooking and bark cloth making and met us at the village gate, and you could join a part of it. We all enjoyed lunch afterward. I recommend you see it and you will learn a lot.

flash back in Borneo's history

In two hours we have met all the communities that have lived in Borneo, their daily life, their traditions. The guide was energetic and nice. I loved tasting the authentic drinks and food..

Great experience

Our driver/ guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The village tour was an incredible experience with lots of demonstrations. Our guide within the village was very entertaining and interactive. It would have been nice to have a lunch at village but unfortunately not available so we enjoyed modern day local lunch instead.

The driver/guide was very late to pick us up and very late to bring us back to our hotel. Lunch was supposed to be included but it wasn't...

Tribes by guided tour

We were not expecting a guided tour - nor the obligatory planned transport - having previously visited the Cultural Village at Damai, outside Kuching. So we booked the tour through our hotel, were picked upon a small mini-van and drove out to Miri Miri. The guild es all seemed to be excellent, based on our guide and those we over-heard. The different tribal houses were interesting and sufficiently varied. The additional exhibits were actually in many ways more fascinating - cooking, making alcohol, etc - with samples for the visitors. Lunch was also included and was much enjoyed by all. Well worth the day out, and although we aren’t “tour” people, the level of organisation was unobtrusive and the half day trip very enjoyable
